Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, quiet town. The West Island, to those not familiar with it, is a large region that runs from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is frequently called her birthplace. But she only resided there for a very short time. Brugel was a woman of a certain age within Courtice Ontario just outside Oshawa. Her first ambition was to be an expert dancer. But, a growing spurt caused her to outgrow every dance partner she had. In an article published in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6'1 inch. As I got bigger than my male partners, I quit. A lot of dancers go from dancing into acting. For Bruce, it was her drama teacher who nudged her to go in this direction. She was encouraged to audition for a part in a school production. She was the teacher who suggested that she go after a role in the annual school production. The show led her to receive an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts at York University. Through the years that followed, Brugel has landed roles in over 60 shows on both small and large screens. She attracted the most interest when she was offered the character as Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel played the role of the character of Rita on The Handmaid's tale the series produced over the course of ten years.
